The founder and only remaining original member of Gospel Grass, he was born on March 25th, 1953 in Bristol Tennessee. He has called Bluff City home all of his life. He and his wife Joyce have a daughter Mariah and one stepson Danny.
His musical history started at East High School in 1969 where he played the trombone until enlisting in the Navy where he spent the next 2 years at the naval air station Chase Field Beeville, Texas.
Having a love for bluegrass music, in the summer of 1986 when acting upon a longtime need to better serve the lord, he formed the group Gospel Grass.
Since then, he has traveled throughout East Tennessee, Southwest Virginia, as well as several states sharing the gospel through this ministry in music. During this time he has seen many people come to know the lord.
For the 25 years, he has been a firefighter for the Bristol Virginia Fire Department, where he is currently serving as Lieutenant.
Having no formal musical training on the upright bass, he owes his accomplishments to the guidance and patience of each member of the group.
He has written and copyrighted two songs (He Calms The Storm For Me, Can’t you Hear My Savior Weep) that have been published and recorded by the group.
His musical perseverance has been influenced by his mother and also his late father in-law. Gordon's mother, Dorothy Gray Poston, was the piano player for the Gospel Light Quartet thru the 1960's. Gordon's father in-law was Cecil Crusenberry (Curly King), of Curly King and The Tennessee Hilltoppers.
Curly was instrumental in encouraging Gordon to follow his calling.
Gordon hopes that during his upcoming retirement from the Fire Department, that he will be able to continue to renovate and restore the groups newly acquired bus that will allow the group’s ministry to grow.
Gordon feels this bus was truly a godsend. He hopes to convey the groups gratitude to all those in the local churches and ministries that supported the acquirement. This will be a very beneficial tool, of the ministry for years to come.
